Setting up a new club

The British Wrestling Association is keen to talk to anyone who is interested in setting up a new club.  In the first instance, please contact the administrator on 01246 236443 (Contact Us)

The process for setting up an affiliated club is just three steps:-

1. Fulfill these main criteria:-

  • A premises with adequate facilities (e.g. wrestling/jigsaw mat)
  • A UKCC (UK Coaching Certificate) Level 2 Coach or a British Wrestling Association (BWA) Level 2 Coach who must be UKCC Level 2 qualified by 31/12/2014 and registered with the BWA
  • A Club Welfare Officer (if club has under-18s)
  • Regular, published, training time(s) with training taking place at those times
  • Open access for new members of the general public to join
  • Have members of the British Wrestling Association

2. A club then submits its details on the attached form to the BWA at admin@britishwrestling.org

3. Confirmation of a club's affiliation is through publishing details of the club on the British Wrestling website find-a-club page

Expected to be achieved within a 1 year period of provisional affiliation is the following:

  • Constitution (to be registered with BWA)
  • Committee
  • Bank account

Expected to be achieved within a 2 year period of affiliation is the following:

  • Club to have qualified Referee(s)
  • Club to have volunteer(s) fulfilling other officiating roles

About Club/Satellites

  • In general, separate venues are likely to constitute different clubs
  • When training takes place at different locations at the same time, this must be separate clubs, (also important for insurance purposes)
  • When training takes place at different locations at different times and there are a different set of attendees at each venue, then these are most likely separate clubs

Club affiliation fees

  • These are set annually and rise in line with the offical Consumer and Price retail index
