British Wrestling hosted the 2nd Annual Referees and Technical Officials Conference this past weekend on the 23rd April at the British Judo Olympic and Paralympic Centre in Walsall.
This years conference had a great turnout of referee’s and TOs. The conference aims of teamwork, mastering the basics and how to use the BWA C-Mats Competition System were met with alot of group discussion throughout the day. The conference is part of British Wrestling’s strategic ambition to develop the wrestling workforce to deliver the best combat sport experience in the UK.
The agenda covered on the day included:
- General updates – British Wrestling
- Rules and Regulation changes – Lead Technical Official, Richard Philips
- Mat Blast/Beach Wrestling update – UWW Referee, Lee Seggl
- UWW update – UWW Academy
- How to get your BWA Referee License
- Competition basics – (responsibilities of the pairer, official and referee)
- How to use the C-Mats Competition System (how to use it as a pairer, official and referee)
- Running through mock competitions
- Scenario scoring session – Lead Technical Official, Richard Philips / UWW Referee, Lee Seggl
Refreshments and Lunch were provided on the day with thanks to the event supporters at Dunkin’ Donuts for supplying breakfast bits.
