Nations & Regions Meeting 26th August 2014 – Skype/Telecon – 21:00-22:10

1. The Committee welcomed Jatinder Rakhra and Jim Tolland to their first meeting
2. The Committee elected Trevor Hoskins as interim Nations & Regions Committee Chair (while Barry Pollin is interim Chair of the BWA)
3. The Committee elected Jatinder Rakhra as the Nations & Regions Nominee 2 to sit on the Board as a Director
4. The Committee elected Sue Jones as Interim Nominee 1 (while Trevor Hoskins is interim Chair of the Nations & Regions Committee)
5. The Nations & Regions gave a round-up of activity
i) Wales: It was great Commonwealth Games for Wales Wrestling, achieving their first medal ever. The Welsh Wresting Association holding the 2015 Commonwealth Games in Cardiff was under active consideration. Wales working with coaches who have taken the UKCC practical to complete the associated paperwork.
ii) Southern Region: A new Southern Region Executive Committee was elected at the June AGM. A follow-up EGM is scheduled for 6th September to elect the Vice-Chair. Te region was working towards the figures of athletes participating in clubs to more closely correlate with BWA membership. The Region had 9x Level 1 coaches on target to be assessed on 6thSeptember.
iii) Northern Ireland: A Development Squad had been held and Northern Ireland was already working towards a medal in 4yrs time at the next Commonwealth Games in Australia.
iv) Midlands Region: The Regional Development Squad was now meeting on a regular basis. Work continuing to encourage all clubs to engage in the Talent Pathway. The Region was hoping for the Level 2 Coaching Course to be based in the Region in October.
v) Scotland: Scottish Wrestling Association are elated by the 2x podium places achieved at Glasgow 2014. In future the Elite Team will be based at Stirling University. A Level 1 coaching course is starting in Edinburgh in September.
vi) Northern Region:
i. It had been a brilliant Commonwealth Games for the Northern Region. Louisa Porogovska, Craig Pilling, Michael Grundy, Yana and Leon Rattigan had medalled from the North. Bolton Wrestling Club had held a celebratory evening attended by 60 with cake and presentation for Louisa and Craig, inviting all Bolton Club’s known Commonwealth Games Athletes from the past, including Albert Aspen (80). After a break of twenty years there had been two similar sized gatherings in two months the other being in June to mark the National Open Day
ii. The Northern Region had held 4x Centres of Excellence led by Regional Development Coach Jesse Bradbury. The post for Regional Coach Assistant had been re-advertised. A vote of thanks was proposed to Toy Morris who had completed 35years as Northern CoE coach.
iii. Membership numbers in the Northern Region were on the rise
