Rules and Discipline

This section of the website provides the rules and disciplinary procedures covering all aspects of wrestling activity, both on and off the mat, sanctioned by British Wrestling. As the governing body for the sport of wrestling across the UK, British Wrestling is responsible for setting the rules for the sport and implementing disciplinary procedures.

As you navigate this page, you will find comprehensive information on the rules that dictate match conduct, scoring, and permissible techniques across the disciplines we recognise. Additionally, we outline the disciplinary processes in place to address any infractions, from minor misconduct to serious breaches. By adhering to these guidelines, we aim to preserve the integrity of British Wrestling and foster a community where respect, honour, and excellence are paramount.

British Wrestling is committed to fostering a competitive and respectful environment where athletes can showcase their skills and reach their potential. Our rules are written to provide clarity and consistency across the UK, ensuring that all participants, from novices to seasoned professionals, compete on a level playing field. The rules cover every aspect of the sport, from the conduct of wrestlers and coaches to the responsibilities of referees and officials.

Similarly, our Code of Conduct clearly articulates the expectations of behaviour and conduct of all involved in the sport, no matter their role.

Discipline is at the core of wrestling’s ethos. It not only shapes the character of individual wrestlers but also upholds the reputation and spirit of the sport. Our disciplinary measures are designed to address any breaches of conduct, ensuring that fairness prevails both on and off the mat. The Disciplinary Code details all the procedures for dealing with breaches of British Wrestling rules and regulations.

Whether you are a wrestler, coach, official, or fan, understanding these rules and the importance of discipline is crucial. Together, we can ensure that British Wrestling continues to thrive as a beacon of fairness and respect in the sporting world. Thank you for your commitment to upholding the standards that make our sport great.
