Rob Prebish, wrestling coach for the USA team competing in the 22nd World Maccabiah Games in Israel in July 2025, is actively seeking to identify Jewish wrestlers in the UK who may be interested in participating in the upcoming games. His aim is to ensure that wrestling remains an official sport at the event by encouraging greater participation and support from member nations.
Wrestling, a discipline with a rich history as the world’s oldest sport, faces the risk of being excluded from the 22nd World Maccabiah Games due to a lack of support and insufficient participation. Prebish emphasizes the importance of wrestling’s presence at the games, highlighting how significant the event is for young Jewish athletes worldwide. The games provide a unique opportunity for these athletes to connect with their heritage and strengthen their ties to Israel and the Jewish community.
During the 21st World Maccabiah Games in 2022, wrestling did not meet the required number of participants, resulting in its removal as an official medal sport. To avoid a similar situation in 2025, Prebish is collaborating with Maccabi USA, the national governing body for Jewish athletics, to identify and recruit Jewish wrestlers from around the world.
Prebish is reaching out to the UK wrestling community to request their assistance in identifying Jewish athletes who may be interested in participating in the games. By contacting local wrestling clubs and organizations and directing potential participants to contact Prebish at Prebes_Prebish@ccpsnet.net, the UK wrestling community can help restore wrestling as an official sport in the World Maccabiah Games next summer.
Additionally, Maccabi USA is considering providing financial support to athletes who wish to take part in the games and experience Israel next summer. Prebish will work closely with national Maccabi organizations and Maccabi USA to advocate for the inclusion of Jewish wrestlers from around the world.
For more information or to assist in this effort, please reach out to Rob Prebish via the provided email address. Your support could make a significant difference in ensuring wrestling remains an integral part of the World Maccabiah Games.
