British Wrestling is delighted to announce the athletes selected for the 2026 National Potential Squad across the Under-15 (U15), Under-17 (U17), and Under-20 (U20) age divisions.
The squad selections follow an intensive selection weekend in July, which saw over 80 promising athletes nominated from
wrestling clubs across the UK. Following a rigorous trial process, the selected wrestlers gathered for their opening squad weekend from 4–6 September at the British Wrestling Academy in Salford.
A Welcoming Start and High-Performance Coaching
The opening weekend kicked off with a joint welcome presentation for both athletes and parents led by Chief Executive Officer Craig Anthony and National Development Coach Ross Connelly. The session outlined squad expectations, holistic athlete development, and the pathway vision set out in British Wrestling’s
Unleashing Potential strategy.
Throughout the three-day camp, athletes were put through technical drills, strength and conditioning assessments, and tactical scenarios led by a dedicated national coaching staff:
-
Squad Coaching Team: Ross Connelly, David Ong, and Charlie Bowling
-
Support Team: Mark Cocker (Senior Squad Coach) and Vlad Gladkov (Technical Director)
- Regional Coaches: Chris Hoban (Northern), Ranjit Randhawa (Midlands) and Nayim Mahomade (Southern).
British Wrestling extends its sincere gratitude to all 80+ athletes who trialled in July, as well as their club coaches, families, and volunteers. The standard of athleticism and work ethic on display highlighted the exceptional depth of young talent growing across our sport.
Wrestlers who were not selected this cycle are strongly encouraged to continue training hard with their clubs, compete in upcoming
domestic competitions, and target future selection opportunities.

For those who missed out on selection this year, national coaches will monitor domestic competitions and talent identification events throughout the season. Continued commitment at club level remains the foundation of long-term success.
Congratulations to all the wrestlers selected for the 2026 National Potential Squad!
