After months of hard work behind closed doors, British Wrestling are proud to announce our landmark partnership with BJJ247, one of the UK’s premier Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Grappling event organisers, to host a Grappling competition in Manchester on August 17th 2024. This partnership marks a significant step forward in our mission to expand our presence in the broader combat sports sector and meet the continued interest in grappling disciplines across the nation.
This inaugural and pivotal event will help to determine a team for the upcoming prestigious United World Wrestling (UWW) Grappling World Championships in Kazakhstan. The two entities have joined forces to host this qualifier event with the aim of elevating the standard of British Grappling and providing a chance for the nation’s best talent to perform on a world stage. The upcoming competition will adhere to UWW’s Grappling rules, which blend techniques from various disciplines, including Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Wrestling, Judo and Sambo, making it a comprehensive test of a grappler’s skill set.
Registration for the event is now open on Smoothcomp, offering athletes a chance to secure their spot in this highly anticipated competition. Athletes will compete in various age and weight categories, with the winners earning the opportunity to represent Great Britain at the UWW Grappling World Championships in Kazakhstan in October. A full selection policy, outlining the criteria for national team selection, will be announced soon. Please note that all athletes must have a British passport and not be serving a doping ban to be eligible for selection.
