British Wrestling has partnered with world-leading agency FirstPoint USA to establish a US scholarship pathway for talented young athletes.
The agreement establishes FirstPoint as exclusive partner for British Wrestling, creating the athlete-scholar pathway to the States for young wrestling talent across England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales.
It is just the latest in a wave of official partnerships agreed by FirstPoint USA this year including with League Football Education, the Mexican Federation of School Sports, Chinese School Sports Federation, English Schools FA and Asmir Begović Goalkeeper Academy.
“This is more fantastic news for FirstPoint and our family of partners. We are delighted to be working with British Wrestling and to be supporting young talent through the scholarship process in the months and years ahead.”
“It also demonstrates the diversity of sports we are active in and can help US colleges find the best talent within, everywhere from soccer and golf to wrestling and esports. FirstPoint now has unrivalled partnerships and relationships, across six continents and in more than 30 different sports, to help provide lifechanging opportunities for talented athletes.”
“British Wrestling is excited to launch this partnership with FirstPoint USA. We see this partnership as an opportunity for us to connect our young wrestlers to the exciting world of university wrestling in the United States. Scholarships can provide an opportunity for a young wrestler to continue to focus on their wresting whilst accessing high-level education and gaining valuable life experience.”
“With the standard of wrestling coaching and competition in the United States, we envisage this partnership featuring as part of our performance pathway moving forward. As we return to the mat over the coming months, we will use our partnership to connect wrestlers to these exciting opportunities.”
FirstPoint USA has placed more than 20,000 scholar-athletes, working with some 2,500 colleges and universities in the US which are currently recruiting talent for 2020/21. FirstPoint USA alumni include former US Masters champion Danny Willett and HSBC Shanghai Masters Champion Russell Knox as well as Premier League winner and England international Jamie Vardy, among a host of professional footballers playing in leagues across the world. The agency introduced a new digital platform earlier this year to allow all prospective scholar-athletes the opportunity to assess their options and engage with institutions and coaches at the touch of a button and no cost: www.firstpointusa.com.
