BWA seeks new NI Governing Body

23/11/2018

The British Wrestling Association is seeking applications to form a new governing body for Wrestling in Northern Ireland.

Applicants should contact the Chief Executive of British Wrestling via e-mail at ce@britishwrestling.org by the deadline for applications, midday, Monday 31st December 2018.

At the 2018 British Wrestling Association Annual General Meeting in Peterborough on Saturday 10 November 2018, the BWA Voting Members, with no votes against, voted to expel the current governing body, Northern Ireland Wrestling Association (NIWA), as a Voting Member of the BWA. (Link to AGM information)

This expulsion came after a period when little pro-active central support for Wrestling participation and talent development had taken place in Northern Ireland – in the terms of the Special Resolution “the NIWA has suspended operations …”

Applications to the BWA to form a Governing Body should follow the conditions laid down in the BWA 2017 Articles of Association (link) at Article 3.5.

3.5 All applications for membership under Article 3.4 must be made in writing, in such form as prescribed by the Board from time to time, [by e-mail to the Chief Executive at ce@britishwrestling.org ] and must be accompanied by:

  1. a copy of the written constitution of the applicant;
  2. a list of the names, residential addresses, email addresses, telephone and fax numbers, and any other necessary contact details of the principal office holders/employees of the applicant;
  3. the most recent annual accounts of the applicant;
  4. evidence establishing that the applicant satisfies the criteria set out in Article 3.2; and
  5. any further information requested by the Board, [in this case]:
    1. A name for the organisation
    2. A Bank Account with 2 independent signatures
    3. In the absence of annual accounts at (c) above, a Bank Statement from that account
    4. Named Lead Safeguarding Officer with certificates (within past 3yrs) for the following:-
      1. Face-to-Face “Safeguarding and Protecting Children” UK Coaching course or equivalent
      2. Face2Face “Time to Listen” course with British Wresting or other sport equivalent
      3. Safeguarding Policy
      4. Strategic Plan for next 5 years
      5. A listing demonstrating how the new organisation meets the basic Tier 1* governance requirements of the UK Code of Sports Governance (link) given at Page 18 onwards

*Definition of Tier 1 described on Page 15 of the Code and represents the minimum level of mandatory governance Requirements in this Code. The Requirements in this Tier seek to ensure the protection of public funding through good governance processes, whilst not creating a disproportionate administrative burden.
