Athletes from England and Scotland attended the Commonwealth Championships in Johannesburg, South Africa on 14-17th December 2017

India sent 20 wrestlers, 2 in each weight category of the new 10 weight category competition that go live for all tournaments from 1 January 2018 onwards.
Georgina Nelthorpe wrestled three matches with wrestlers from India and Nigeria. Unfortunately she lost all matches: 0-11 against P. Pooja/IND, 6-8 against D. Guerreroayala/NGR and 0-7 against K. Kavita/IND.
Charlie Bowling beat Rudi Fouche/RSA 12-2, but then lost 10-0 to two Indian wrestlers (Amit Kumar Dhankhar) and (Kumar Arun) and 10-0 to Ghulam Ghous of Pakistan
Ross Connelly beat Suraj Singh/NZL 6-0 but was then beaten by Silver Medalist Jan Combrinck/RSA 10-0
Viorel Etko lost to Muhammad Bilal/PAK 10-0
Joe Hendry lost to Tayab Raza/PAK
Congratulations to Ross Connelly took Bronze against Hermanus Van den Berg/SA 12-2 in the repechage.
The athletes were accompanied by Anatolii Kharytoniuk (England National Coach) and Ian Wiggett (UWW Category III Referee). Ian Wiggett also attended a meeting of the Commonwealth Wrestling Association on behalf of Wales, with Jem Lawson (on behalf of England and the other Home Nations) Skyping in.
