Golden Grand Prix Final

Competition Announcement
The following members of the GBR Team have qualified to participate in the above Grand Prix Final taking place next weekend (17-19 July). Good Luck to:
Oleksandr Madyarchyk
Myroslav Dykun
Leon Rattigan
Yana Rattigan
They will be accompanied by Nikolai Kornieiev, National Coach and FILA I Referee, David Sudron.
Results
This tournament was extremely significant for British Wrestling.
Myroslav Dykun, GBR 66K, came 5th overall

  • In the first round, Myroslav beat Azerbaijan
  • Then the NOTABLE result, in the next round Myroslav beat the World No.1 Russian who won gold in the 1st Grand Prix in Krasnoyarsk, Russia in January
  • Then met another Azerbaijan and lost narrowly in 3 rounds
  • Then met Iranian for 3rd or 5th and was beaten after going to the full 3 rounds.

Myroslav’s Grand Prix Final success is a significant milestone for British Wrestling improvement.  To beat the world No.1 Russian is an exceptional result. It signals a breakthrough at Senior Level.
This Golden Grand Prix Final is equivalent to a World Championships and is a most significant event in the wrestling calendar and signals that having athletes capable of finishing in a Top 6 place in a World Championships/Olympics is now reality, rather than a dream
Yana Rattigan, GBR 48k (female,) came 5th overall

  • In the first round Yana beat Poland
  • In the next round Yana lost to Russia across full 3 rounds
  • But Yana was then beaten by Japan in 2 rounds.

Yana’s was also a very creditable result.
Leon was beaten by US (in first round), who was then beaten, so Leon did not get to repecharge
Oleksandr Madyarchyk was beaten by Azerbaijan and did not get to repecharge
