As further restrictions to reduce transmission of coronavirus are introduced in England from 14th September, I want to reiterate the importance of our wrestling clubs and members complying with the legal restrictions in place across the UK.
I understand that the regular changes have made the restrictions difficult to follow at times. However, in England, we remain at the Return to Club stage of our Return to the Mat plan. This means:
Please refer to our guidance on the Coronavirus Update page for more detailed information. For guidance on activity in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland please contact Scottish Wrestling, Welsh Wrestling or Wrestling NI, respectively.
Any activity not in line with our current guidance, or that of the Home Nation Bodies where appropriate, is not covered by British Wrestling insurance. Any members or clubs not complying with guidelines are at risk of sanctions.
For those getting back on the mat in a socially distanced way, a reminder that both coaches and participants must be members of British Wrestling to be covered by our insurance. You can renew your membership or join via our membership portal.
I am working closely with other contact combat sports, Sport England and the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) to lobby for dispensation for the reintroduction of combat sport. The group has developed and submitted suggested guidance to the government in hopes of getting dispensation for the sports to begin again. Until such time we must remain patient and continue to keep everyone safe.
The Sport Technical Committee will be meeting in the coming days. They will assess the impact of continued restrictions on the remainder of the competition calendar. An update on the competition calendar will be provided via the website.
If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to get in touch, canthony@britishwrestling.org.
