Following the coronavirus update to restrictions across the Home Nations instigating a full January lockdown. We can confirm that all wrestling activity must stop with the exception of elite sport. We know this is another blow to clubs and we are working hard to identify additional support during this time.
Whilst elite sport may continue, we have taken the step to cancel the January GBR squad training. We are using this time to review our safety protocols and get a better understanding of the situation with the new Covid-19 variant.
British Wrestling is working with Wrestle Like A Girl to bring you This Girl Can Wrestle online sessions, you can find out more and book here.
We are also exploring other ways you can stay engaged with wrestling over the coming weeks and will hopefully announce additional opportunities soon.
During the winter months is often a time when people struggle with their mental health, this will only be exacerbated by the lockdown. We encourage you to stay connected across the wrestling family and to reach out to those who may be struggling.
We are working behind the scenes to develop a number of scenario plans for a full return to the mat as soon as it is safe to do so. This includes a return to training and developing an appropriate reintroduction to competition and technique assessment.
If you need any support or additional guidance please don’t hesitate to reach out to any of the team or contact the office using admin@britishwrestling.org.
