Mobile phones, text messaging, e-mail and other forms of electronic communication, have become a regular feature of everyday life, including the sporting landscape.
Within our Association, there is a need to define what is and what is
not permissible when communication is required between adults and children or young people.
The purpose of the Social Media Policy is to provide a recommendation of best practice to coaches, staff, those in a position of trust, clubs, parents and members of the organisation.
More information is available about this complex area, notably from the “Child Protection in Sport Unit (CPSU,) a branch of the NSPCC.
The CPSU has a briefing document “Briefing Document Social networking services, social media and sport: Guidelines
for safeguarding children and young people” (link) which gives more in depth guidance on social networking sites and this and other advice be accessed via the CPSU website at www.cpsu.org.uk
