British Wrestling would like to congratulate Dr Saam Falahati on his appointment to the UWW Network of Wrestling Doctors.
The UWW Network of Wrestling Doctors is composed of former UWW Medical Commission (MC) Members & UWW certified Wrestling Team Physician and is seen as a key step towards selection to the UWW Medical Commission. This is an exciting opportunity for Dr Saam but also sees GBR represented at the international level away from the mat presenting opportunities for future engagement with UWW.
Saam is a Member of the Royal College of General Practitioners with a special interest in Sports Medicine and Anti-Doping having received Postgraduate qualifications from the International Olympic Commitee. Certified as an Olympic Wrestling Physician with United World Wrestling since 2019, he was recently one of two doctors sent by United World Wrestling to oversee the medical coverage of the World Wrestling Senior Championships in Oslo 2021. He has vast experience in combat sports medicine, from wrestling to mixed martial arts, and has provided expert advice and medical representation to UFC athletes regarding anti-doping cases. He is also an Honorary Clinical Lecturer at the University of Glasgow School of Medicine.
Most recently Dr Falahati attended the December GB Senior Squad camp to ensure athletes can complete the medical examinations needed for UWW competition licences. British Wrestling is speaking with Dr Falahati on how we can work together to improve medical knowledge and support in wrestling both domestically and internationally.
Congratulations Dr Saam!
