British Wrestling is delighted to announce that the 2025 Annual General Meetings for the English Regions are scheduled, marking a vital opportunity for clubs and their representatives to actively shape the future of wrestling across the country. We strongly encourage all members to prompt their club representatives to engage fully in these important democratic processes.
A strong, vibrant regional body is the bedrock of a thriving sport. By actively participating in your regional AGM, you contribute directly to:
Better Sport Promotion and Development: A robust regional committee can more effectively promote wrestling within its local communities, attract new participants, and develop pathways from grassroots to elite levels.
Enhanced Local Competition Opportunities: Strong regions are better equipped to organise and host a wider range of local competitions, providing invaluable experience and competitive pathways for wrestlers of all ages and abilities.
Greater National Influence: United and engaged regions carry a stronger voice within British Wrestling, ensuring that the unique needs and priorities of their clubs and members are heard and considered at the national level. This collaborative approach is essential for a truly unified sport.
This series of AGMs also comes at a significant time, following British Wrestling’s recent Governance Review. One of the key recommendations from this review was to bring the democratic structure and process of British Wrestling to the direct awareness of its members. These regional AGMs are a prime example of this commitment in action, offering a transparent platform for clubs to elect their leadership and influence regional strategy.
We are pleased to confirm that Steven Esom, Chair of British Wrestling, and Craig Anthony, CEO of British Wrestling, will be in attendance at each regional AGM. They will provide an update from British Wrestling, and there will be an opportunity for questions.
We are also announcing that executive officer positions are available for election in each region at these upcoming AGMs. The Regional Executive Committee is made up of four roles:
Chair: Leads the Regional Executive Committee and provides strategic direction.
Vice-Chair: Supports the Chair and assists in regional management.
Secretary: Manages administration, records, and correspondence.
Treasurer: Oversees financial affairs and reports.
The Regional Executive Committee is responsible for:
Representing the interests of clubs and members at a national level, offering constructive feedback on British Wrestling strategies and policies.
Developing, promoting, and controlling all styles of wrestling within their specific English Region.
Working directly with clubs to boost participation and membership.
Ensuring fair and equal treatment for all members, fostering an inclusive environment.
If you are an enthusiastic member keen to contribute to the growth of wrestling in your area, we urge you to contact your club representative for more details on how to be nominated for one of these executive positions. These roles offer a fantastic opportunity to directly influence the sport, develop new skills, and connect with a passionate community. We particularly encourage new people to consider standing for election – fresh perspectives are vital for our ongoing development!
Your engagement is paramount to building a robust and responsive regional structure that serves the best interests of all involved in British wrestling. Please ensure your club is represented and ready to contribute to these important discussions.
