British Wrestling 1st4Sport UKCC Level 1 Assistant Wrestling Coach Qualification (North)

Developed in partnership with 1st4Sport, the British Wrestling Level 1 Award in Coaching Wrestling is the first qualification on the wrestling coaching ladder. The qualification is designed to provide learners aged 16 and over with an introduction to the practical and theoretical aspects of coaching wrestling. The foundation level of knowledge recognised in this qualification will enable them to develop an understanding of the safe, ethical and effective management and coaching of wrestling. Those who complete this Award will be able to assist other, more qualified coaches in delivering wrestling coaching sessions to participants of all ages.

Below is a basic overview of the technical related exercises covered on the Level 1:

Deliver Components of a Warm Up and Cool Down

  • Wrestling-related movement skills (no equipment)
  • Wrestling -related movement skills (with equipment)
  • Wrestling -related fun games and activities
  • Wrestling -related stretching and movement
  • Wrestling -related core stability


 Deliver Skills (Relevant to Wrestling)

  • Principles of:
    • Correct equipment use
    • Standing stances and movement 
    • Ground stances (Par-Terre)
    • Level change
    • Penetration techniques
    • Rotation techniques 
    • Defence
    • Pin and control
    • Application of principles within the sport (modified game, situational game, matches)


 Deliver Physical Activity Skills (Relevant to Wrestling)

  • Movement skills within the wrestling activity
  • Principles of body positioning within the wrestling activity
  • Application of principles within the physical activity (constrained activity, full activity)
