BWA Referee/Judge Course [CANCELLED]

The course will be held over two days as detailed below. The Official-in-Charge of the course will be David Sudron FILA 1 Referee.
Day One – Saturday 20 November 2010 – 1100 – 1700hrs @ The Wrestling Academy, 41 Great Clowes St, Salford M7 1RQ
Classroom and Mat Time

  • Understanding the international wrestling rules + demonstration/discussion of point scoring actions and holds + illegal actions
  • Written examination


Day Two –

Saturday 27 November 2010 on the occasion of the British Novices to be held in Manchester – venue to be confirmed nearer the time.
Practical Assessment

  • Participate in wrestling tournaments
  • Assessment of candidate’s understanding of rules and practical implementation
  • Practical examination

What you need to do before you attend:-

  • Complete and return the attached attendance slip before 6 November 2010
  • You must be a member of the BWA and must be between 16 and 40 years of age. (Over 40’s can attend but will only able to referee/judge at domestic competitions as he/she will be ineligible for selection to attend FILA International Referees Course)
  • Download and read (60+pages!) the International Rules of Wrestling from: www.fila-wrestling.com


On the day (20 November 2010)

  • You need to bring with you your downloaded International Rules of Wrestling and pen and paper
  • You will also need to bring your own lunchtime refreshments as only tea, coffee & biscuits will be provided upon arrival.
  • You will need to bring loose clothing and suitable footwear (no outdoor shoes).
  • At the end of the day you will have a written examination.
  • If you pass you will be go forward for your Practical Assessment (27 November 2010).

And then…
Practice within your club environment and keep re-reading the International Rules of Wrestling

Practical Assessment (27 November 2010)

Both junior and senior athletes will be participating in the British Novices whilst you referee or judge them. Dave Sudron and/or Ian Bevan (Honorary FILA referee) will be there to check your paper work and go through with you each bout you officiate in. You will be told within 1 week of the course whether you have passed. At this point you will need to complete a Criminal Records Bureau check. (Contact BWA Administration for details or your own club welfare officer)
Finally…
Once your CRB check has been completed then you will be eligible to officiate at domestic competitions as designated by Dave Sudron (BWA Official-in-Charge).

Note:
Unfortunately, due to the low numbers of applicants for the referees course originally scheduled for Saturday 18th September it was decided to cancel this course.
However, Dave Sudron has agreed to re-schedule Day 1 (Theory) until Saturday 20th November and still hold Day 2 (Practical Assessment) at the time of the British Novices on 27th November.
