Reslo Cymru, Welsh Wrestling Association, recently hosted a training & competition event in Cardiff, with wrestlers from across the country in attendance.
The day hosted at the Sport Wales National Centre was an opportunity to bring together the community, as well as celebrate the hard work of the team. The morning session saw Coaches Amir Lak (Hangar Wrestling Club, Cardiff) and Daniial Iliasov (Bear Wrestling, Swansea), with support from Siavash Hatamvand and Kamil Gadzhiataev, deliver technical training for 28 wrestlers from Cardiff, Swansea, Newport and the Borders.
The afternoon gave those in attendance the opportunity to take part in some competitive action, with 16 matches & seven friendlies taking place, with referee Ivaylo Sarov officiating. Although all friends and training partners, the atmosphere was competitive, and the skill on display was commendable. This points to an exciting future for wrestling in Wales.
Coaches, wrestlers and officials from Wales have been very active at competition this season, with a Welsh presence at almost every UK competition – again a positive sign.
We would like to make a special mention of Trevor Hoskins who travelled to initiate Wales with the running of C-Mats for competition. His presence was invaluable, and his guidance puts the Welsh workforce and volunteers in a good place for future competition.
