British Wrestling is today announcing that Tony Melling and Vasile Jornea have stepped down from their roles on the Board of Directors. Both Tony and Vasile have been instrumental in the sport’s recent evolution, and we would like to extend our deepest gratitude for their dedication and service to the wrestling family.

Tony Melling has been a long-standing advocate for wrestling in England. Having previously served as the England Chair, Tony brought a wealth of experience and a deep-rooted commitment to the sport. His particular focus on improving the competition and event experience has been vital in ensuring that our tournaments provide high-quality experiences for all participants. Tony’s passion has helped foster a welcoming environment where athletes can thrive together.

“Reflecting on the past five years, we can truly celebrate a period of significant growth and evolution for our sport,” says Steven Esom, Chair of British Wrestling. “The collective effort of our board members has firmly positioned us for the exciting journey ahead.”
As we embark on our 2025-2030 strategic plan, “Unleashing Potential,” we are committed to maintaining the high standards of governance and integrity that Tony and Vasile upheld.
The recruitment process for the Director for Scotland position is already underway. We are looking for an individual who can continue to build on the strong foundations of collaboration and unity established during Vasile’s term.
The position is now live on our vacancies page. We will be seeking a candidate who shares Tony’s long-standing passion for the sport and can help us grow and diversify participation across the country.
