The end of June marks a sad occasion as we bid farewell to Sahara Mohammed, whose position as Legacy Project Officer comes to a close. Sahara has been a beacon of dedication and inspiration through her leadership and relentless effort to deliver the Birmingham 2022 Legacy Project focused on growing female participation. Her journey with us has been marked by transformative achievements, and while her official tenure with us concludes, her impact will continue to resonate.
Through Sahara’s work on the Sport England-funded Birmingham 2022 Legacy Project, she has tirelessly championed the growth and development of female wrestling promoting inclusivity and accessibility for women and girls. Her commitment to this cause has led to substantial advancements in community engagement, grassroots development, and the elevation of wrestling’s profile within diverse communities.
Under Sahara’s guidance, the project achieved significant milestones:
Though Sahara is stepping down from her official position, her passion for wrestling remains undiminished. We are thrilled to announce that Sahara has graciously agreed to continue her involvement as a volunteer Women and Girls Development Officer. In this capacity, she will focus on continuing to provide guidance and support for clubs and community groups looking to develop female wrestling, supporting female coaches and officials and providing a series of opportunities specifically for female wrestlers.
Sahara has been a welcomed member of the team, moving seamlessly from her voluntary role as Midlands Chair into the Legacy position. Whilst we recognise we still have a long way to go in achieving greater gender balance in the sport her impact has been clear. I’m delighted that Sahara has offered to continue as Women and Girls Development Officer alongside her other voluntary position to support our ambitions to develop womens wrestling.
Craig Anthony, CEO

As we say farewell, we also celebrate the beginning of a new chapter where Sahara’s influence will continue to guide and inspire. Her ongoing involvement in a voluntary capacity ensures that her legacy of promoting women and girls in wrestling will flourish, paving the way for a more inclusive and dynamic future for the sport.
Thank you, Sahara, for your unwavering dedication, your visionary leadership, and your enduring passion. The British wrestling community is forever grateful, and we look forward to your continued contributions as we move forward together.
