Wrestling in the UK continues to be impacted by the Coronavirus outbreak, in response to the continuing restrictions in place to deal with the pandemic British Wrestling is today making a number of announcements.
We continue to update our Coronovirus Support post with details as they become available and yesterday released a funding support article detailing funds specifically available to help clubs struggling due to the Covid-19 outbreak. British Wrestling staff remain ready to help in any way we can so please reach out if you need assistance.
All wrestling activity will continue to be suspended until July when we will reassess the situation in light of government advice.
In response to the continued restrictions on wrestling, British Wrestling will be freezing all memberships until such time as wrestling begins again. This will be backdated for all members who held a valid membership as of 1st March 2020. We are working with our membership portal provider, Go Membership, to implement this as soon as possible so please bear with us. If you receive a request for renewal over the next few days please ignore this as we work to implement the process.
Your membership will automatically unfreeze and restart once wrestling begins with the remaining time left on your annual membership.
The British Senior Championships were due to be held on 6th and 7th June in Manchester. Due to the ongoing restrictions the Championships have been postponed and rearranged for 31st October and 1st November. The competition will still be held in Manchester and we will confirm the venue and more detail as soon as we are able.
In January we announced the intention to require all wrestlers to hold a Yellow Award as a requirement for entry to competitions, this was due to be implemented for the British Junior Championships on 7th November. Due to the restrictions, this requirement will be deferred by a year to the 2021 British Junior Championships, date to be confirmed.
We hope that the usual busy end to the year in the UK will be able to go ahead as planned so we are encouraging all members to stay active and train as best they can. We have been impressed and enthused by some of the support the wrestling community has shown. A couple to highlight include Impact Wrestling’s Sprawl Challenge and Charlie Bowling’s home workouts.
We’d love to share more examples of how we can all help each other #StayInWorkOut so please let us know what you’re doing through social media and use the hashtag #StayInWorkOut.
