Today British Wrestling is pleased to announce that international wrestling is returning to the United Kingdom. On 2nd and 3rd December 2023, the British Wrestling Association will be hosting the GB Grand Prix.
The international competition will be held at the Wythenshawe Forum in Manchester and the competition categories will be U17 and U20 freestyle and women’s wrestling. The competition is open to a select number of countries in Europe and the Commonwealth and will be the first international competition hosted by British Wrestling since 2010.
British Wrestling announced the competition at the UWW Europe Congress in Zagreb, Croatia. We are able to host this competition as part of United World Wrestling’s initiative to support developing wrestling nations. The competition will also receive support through the UK Sport National event funding programme.
“We are delighted to bring an international wrestling tournament back to Britain,” said Competition Manager, Kieran Malone. ‘This will be a great platform to build up the skill level and experience of our wrestlers. As a governing body, we hope to make this an annual event.”
More details of the competition will be published on the dedicated website www.britishwrestling.org/gb-grand-prix in due course.
