Strong GBR Team to Participate in the First Ever “Individual World Cup”
British Wrestling will send a strong team to the inaugural “Individual World Cup” in Belgrade, Serbia from 12/18 December 2020 consisting of the following:
GBR Team Leader – Eddy Kavanagh
GBR Support Coach – Steve McKeown
GBR Athletes – Georgina Nelthorpe (U76kgs), George Ramm (U65kgs) & Nicolae Cojocaru (U70kgs)
This new initiative will replace the Senior World Championships for 2020 as the sport continues to seek creative and safe solutions to the challenges presented by the global pandemic.
A UWW representative wrote, “We will abide by strict sanitary measures and protocols which have been developed by our medical commission in collaboration with the IOC and WHO. This includes living in a bubble during the competition for all participants starting from athletes, up to every collaborator, volunteer and person involved in the championship organization. Implementation will be complex and costly, however we are confident that implementing all necessary measures and procedures will provide a safe environment. We have to reorganize ourselves and live and practice our sport in a new reality. In 2021 we will have the qualification events for the Olympic Games, there is no alternative, and they must be delivered”.
Congratulations to those selected and good luck to the GBR team as they make their final preparations for the event.
