Glasgow 2014

Glasgow 2014 will be the fourth time the Commonwealth Games has been to Scotland, but the first to take place in Glasgow, the nation’s largest city.
Competition will take place in 17 sports across 11 days between Wednesday July 23rd and Sunday August 3rd, in what will be the largest ever sporting and cultural event ever staged in Scotland.
The Games’ sports programme sees the return of mountain biking and triathlon after an eight year absence, whilst optional favourites diving, gymnastics, judo, shooting, table tennis and wrestling all keep their place from the Delhi 2010 Games.
There will be 22 wrestling Commonwealth Games Associations represented at the Glasgow Games.
Women’s boxing makes its Commonwealth Games debut while there are more Para-sport medals than ever up for grabs – 22 across athletics, swimming, powerlifting, track cycling and lawn bowls.
There is a great wresting connection with the delivery of the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games. Michael Cavanagh is a past Treasurer to the Scottish Wrestling Association and is now the Chairman of Commonwealth Games Scotland (CGS) and has been a CGS board member since 2003. As CGS Chair, Michael has a seat on the Glasgow 2014 Board.
