Day 1:
Classroom and Mat Time

  • Understanding the international wrestling rules + demonstration/discussion of point scoring actions and holds + illegal actions
  • Examination based on pass/fail. Written examination 50 marks.   Pass mark 35

Day 2:
Practical Assessment

  • Candidates are advised to take part in mentored practice within a club environment prior to attending the practical assessment
  • Candidates will be required to take part in an actual wrestling tournament
  • Assessment of candidates understanding of rules and practical implementation
  • Practical examination 50 marks.  Pass mark 35
  • Candidates aged 16+ up to 40 years
  • Study of International Wrestling Rules recommended before course downloaded from www.fila-wrestling.com
  • Successful candidates must be a member of BWA Ltd
  • Criminal Records Bureau Check (CRB Enhanced Disclosure Certificate) which can be obtained through the BWA
  • Purchase standard referee/judge attire
  • Approx cost of membership and referees uniform £75

Referee/ Judge/ Mat Chair
Level 1
2 day course
Course designed to identify those candidates already holding Level 2 Certificate and who are capable of assuming the role of Mat Chair in any domestic competition
Day 1:
Classroom

  • Understanding the particular competencies and technical functions of the role of the Mat Chair
  • Written examination based on pass/fail – 50 marks.  Pass mark 45

Day 2:
Practical

  • Candidates will be required to take part in an actual wrestling tournament
  • Assessment of candidates understanding of rules and practical implementation
  • Practical examination – 50 marks.  Pass mark 45
  •  Candidates aged 16+ up to 40 years
  • Study of International Wrestling Rules recommended before course downloaded from www.fila-wrestling.com
  • Candidates must be familiar with Articles 26 & 27 of the Regulations for the International Refereeing Body, downloaded from www.fila-wrestling.com
  • member of BWA Ltd
  • Current Criminal Records Bureau Check (CRB Enhanced Disclosure Certificate) which can be obtained through the BWA
  • Cost of course £30
  • Referee/ Judge/ Mat Chair candidates may be required to attend additional learning modules as part of their continual personal development
  • Qualified Level 1 Referee/ Judge/ Mat Chair candidates can progress to the status of FILA International Referee

Assistant Pairing Master 1 day course
Classroom:
Study and discussion of International Wrestling Rules relative to pairing

  • Candidates should be familiar with the following Articles of the Rules: 7, 8, 9, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 34, 35, 43, 44, 45, 60
  • Written examination based on pass/fail 50 marks.  Pass mark 35
  • Practical assessment under supervision of Lead Pairing Master in domestic competitions (3) – 50 marks.  Pass mark 35
  • Candidates aged 16+ up to 40 years
  • Study of International Wrestling Rules recommended before course downloaded from www.fila-wrestling.com
  • Successful candidates must be members of the BWA Ltd
  • Criminal Records Bureau Check (CRB Standard Disclosure Certificate) which can be obtained through the BWA

Lead Pairing Master 2 day course

  • Computer learning of FILA Heracles competition and pairing system

Competition scenario

  • Must have the knowledge and understanding of the international wrestling rules
  • Must have the organisational skills to structure the competition, identify errors and accurately produce the final results.
  • Candidates aged 16+ up to 40 years

  • Successful candidates must be members of the BWA Ltd
  • Criminal Records Bureau Check (CRB     Standard Disclosure Certificate) which can be obtained through the BWA
Timekeeper ½ day course
Classroom and Practical

  • Familiarisation with scoring and timing devices
  • Discussion of the wrestling rules as they affect the timekeepers role
  • Candidates aged 16+ up to 40 years
  • Candidates must be familiar with Chapter 5 of the International Wrestling Rules downloaded from www.fila-wrestling.org
  • Successful candidates must be members of the BWA Ltd
  • Criminal records Bureau Check (CRB Standard Disclosure Certificate) which can be obtained through the BWA
