Club Affiliation


British Wrestling welcomes applications for club affiliation from organisations aiming to develop and grow the sport of Wrestling across England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales. 

British Wrestling offers two levels of club affiliation: 

  1. Affiliated Club – this is a full affiliation and requires clubs to demonstrate compliance with our criteria
  2. Associate Club – for those clubs and groups looking to get more involved in wrestling that don’t currently meet the Affiliated Club criteria 

Club affiliation runs from 1st January to 31st December of each year. Reaffiliation opens on 1st November each year for the following year.

Affiliated Club 

Affiliated clubs are required to fulfil the following criteria:

  • Head Coach
    • 1st4Sport UKCC BWA Coaching Level 2 Qualification / Honorary Coaching Certificate
    • First Aid 
    • Safeguarding Certification
    • Enhanced DBS (via British Wrestling)/PVG/Access NI 
    • Signed Coaches Code of Conduct 
  • Club Welfare Officer (for the protection of children and vulnerable adults) 
    • Safeguarding Certification 
    • Enhanced DBS (via British Wrestling)/PVG/Access NI 
  • Governance and Structures
    • Proof of a Community Club Bank Account (or Business Account separate from the individual).
    • Club Constitution/Governance Document.
    • Name and Membership Details of 3 Club Officials. This should be three different people who are not related with a paid British Wrestling membership.  (Club admin can change the roles of individuals that are part of the club i.e Club President, Secretary, Treasurer within their remit on the system).
    • List of active coaches at the club (These roles can be assigned to the coach by Club Admin within your Club Portal on the BWA membership portal).

Costs

  • Affiliated Club costs £200 per year

Associate Club 

Are you an established club, involved in MMA or any combat-related sport, that wishes to add wrestling to their club but does not have a 1st4Sport Level 2 Wrestling qualification but wishes to work towards an affiliated club status? Then Associate Club status may be for you, please contact membership@britishwrestling.org or amichaelas@britishwrestling.org to discuss your options. 

Associate clubs are required to provide evidence of the following: 

  • Public Liability Insurance
    (As of 2019: Minimum £5,000,000) 
  • Primary Club Safeguarding Officer
    (Free BWA Membership – Contact:
    membership@britishwrestling.org

    • Safeguarding Certification 
    • Enhanced DBS (via British Wrestling)/PVG/Access NI
  • Achieved or Working towards the Martial Arts Code of Conduct
   

Benefits 

  • Wrestlers can declare from your club at BWA competitions 
  • Information and support from BWA on becoming an affiliated club 
   

Costs

  • Associate Club costs £50 per year

Club Affiliation Fees 

Club affiliation fees are set annually and generally rise in line with the average of the official Consumer Price Index (CPI) and Retail Price Index (RPI). 

Go Membership 

British Wrestling utilises Go Membership for its club affiliation and membership online portal. In order to affiliate your club please contact membership@britishwrestling.org or amichaelas@britishwrestling.org to register your new club through the BWA online membership portal.
