About the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS)

The Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) helps employers make safer recruitment decisions and prevent unsuitable people from working with vulnerable groups, including children. It replaces the Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) and Independent Safeguarding Authority (ISA).

All appointments to roles within the British Wrestling Association (BWA) and its affiliated clubs requiring Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Enhanced Disclosures must be expressed to be conditional upon the Individual complying with the BWA vetting requirements and receipt of satisfactory DBS clearance.

The number of roles requiring enhanced disclosures is limited.

Individuals are required to apply to the DBS themselves
 

How to get a DBS check

1. The BWA Lead Safeguarding Officer (LSO) gets an application form from DBS.

2. The LSO gives the applicant the form (standard or enhanced, according to the role) to fill in and return to the LSO, along with documents proving their identity.

3. The LSO sends the completed application form to DBS.

4. DBS sends a certificate to the applicant. The LSO has to ask the applicant to see the certificate (as laid down in the BWA’s Safeguarding DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service) Policy link).

If the applicant has subscribed to the DBS update service, the LSO can check their certificate online.
