British Wrestling is delighted to announce the appointment of Mick Sudron to the Board as our new Home Nations Director for England and Chair of the England Committee.
Mick’s appointment follows a rigorous, highly competitive recruitment process led by the Board Nominations Committee in close collaboration with the English regional committees. This transparent and exhaustive process ensures that our leadership directly reflects and serves the needs of our grassroots community as we drive forward our ambitious 2025–2030 strategic plan, Unleashing Potential.
A Wealth of Grassroots and Elite Experience
Mick is an incredibly well-known and highly respected figure across the UK wrestling community. For many, he is best recognised as the head coach of Stockton Spartans Wrestling Club, where he has dedicated years to developing grassroots talent.
His influence extends far beyond the club mat; Mick has coached on the British pathway as both a regional and national coach, holding a UWW Level 3 coaching qualification.
With over 40 years of involvement in the sport, Mick brings a brilliant blend of elite athletic achievement and seasoned business leadership to the Board:
This combination of elite sporting insight and sharp business acumen makes him uniquely qualified to strengthen governance and support our member clubs.
Mick’s role will be vital in driving forward the GROW and EMPOWER pillars of our new strategic plan. British Wrestling is fully committed to empowering regional committees, ensuring they have clear roles, strong resources, and open lines of communication with the National Governing Body (NGB) to modernise the sport’s delivery.
Welcoming the Appointment
Steven Esom, Chair of the British Wrestling Board, welcomed the appointment:

He is exactly the leader we need to empower our committees, support our volunteers, and take English wrestling to the next level.”

“Wrestling has been a central part of my life for over 40 years, and I am incredibly proud to take on this role. As England Director, I am completely focused on strengthening wrestling across our English regions and improving the overall experience for our athletes, coaches, and volunteers.
My goal is to build greater collaboration, establish more robust regional structures, and create sustainable, long-term opportunities that will grow the sport not just in England, but across the wider UK. We have massive potential waiting to be unlocked, and I can’t wait to get to work with our clubs and committees.”
What This Means for English Clubs
