Team England Wrestling Team Leader
Appointed for Birmingham 2022


British Talent Lead Jatinder Singh Rakhra has been appointed to lead the English wrestling squad for the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.

Jit was part of the management team that led a successful team of wrestlers to the 2018 Commonwealth Games in the Gold Coast where three of the five athletes returned with a bronze medal. He also led the wrestling team as part of the Team GB delegation at the European Olympic Youth Festival in 2019. 

Following the resignation of Eddy Kavanagh, Jit was appointed to the role through a competitive interview process and will now use his international experience to assist Team England’s talented wrestlers on their pathway to, and during, the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

Speaking about his appointment, Jit said

“British Wrestling is a strong and diverse community that I have been part of for 28 years. Wrestling has paid a huge part in my life and I am extremely proud and honoured to be Leading Team England Wrestling to this home games in Birmingham. ”

Since the inclusion of wrestling in the inaugural 1930 Commonwealth Games, the sport has been contested 18 times with Team England athletes winning an impressive 66 medals in the sport.
