The Board of the Northern Ireland Wrestling Association is pleased to announce that Robbie Irwin is the new Designated Safeguarding Child Officer for the organisation.
Robbie is vastly experienced on the subject of governance and takes on the new role having completed training at the Safeguarding Child and Young People Tutor Orientation Workshop in February 2015, (an event also attended by Jim Toland).
The orientation was delivered by Paul Stephenson from the NSPCC’s Child Protection in Sport Unit and as a result Robbie and Jim can deliver the Safeguarding Children and Young People in Sport workshop for wrestling coaches and volunteers in Northern Ireland.
Paul Stephenson said, “It’s great to see wrestling build capacity within their own sport to deliver the safeguarding workshop directly to their own coaches. When workshops are delivered by tutors who are already involved in the sport and therefore aware of the specific issues that may arise, the tutors have more credibility and are able to ensure the scenarios are sport specific and relevant to the attendees”
