This December saw a major step forward in the development of the England Talent Pathway for Wrestling…
…the appointment of Regional Coaches across the North, Midlands and South Regions of England.
Regional Coach | Regional Coach Assistant | |
North: | Jesse Bradbury | |
Midlands: | Trevor Hoskins | Dean Brown |
South: | Eric Ciake |
The appointments followed an extensive interview process with panels that sat both in London (at the Headquarters of Sport England) and the British Wrestling Academy (in Salford).
There are new coaches appointed for each Region. They will run official Regional Squad training sessions. It is from these Regional Squads that athletes progress to the England Development Squad (13-17yrs).
Each Region had a full member of their Region’s interview panel with the North having an additional observer. The panels were constituted to ensure that the appointment process was rigourous and transparent – it being important to have secure foundations for these critical posts within new structure.
The overall purpose of the coaches is to work with their Region and British Wrestling to select, train and run regular assessments of a Regional Training Squad and to assist in the training of the England Development Squad according to the framework set out in the England Talent Pathway and lead a team of committed volunteer coaches within the Region.
Calling All Talented England Wrestlers!!!
Please contact your Regional Coach about future Regional Squad training sessions. The Regional Coaches will also endeavour to be in touch with you. Selection to the squads will be under the control of the athletes and based on performance in the testing protocols as laid out in the Talent Pathway literature. (Coaches were invited to the Talent Pathway implementation meetings in Salford and London).
Athletes and their coaches are invited to Regional Squad training sessions, the dates of which will be announced shortly.
Keen to get their new roles underway, and Regional Squads functioning under the new structure, the Regional Coaches held their first joint planning meeting on 14th December at the Academy. The meeting coincided with the latest England Squad training day in the Lead-up to Glasgow 2014.
Congratulations to Jesse Bradbury, Trevor Hoskins, Dean Brown and Eric Ciake on volunteering for the Coach roles and for their appointment.
Eric Ciake is also the Talent Development Lead on the England Committee and both Eric Ciake and Trevor Hoskins are Tutors qualified to deliver the UKCC Level 1 and 2 Wrestling Courses.
