British Wrestling is pleased to announce that following Boris Johnson’s press conference on Monday 5th April confirming that England will be progressing to the next stage of the National Roadmap, we can return to the mat.
We are pleased to confirm that British Wrestling’s Contact Combat Sports Guidance has been approved by the government. The guidance available below and on the coronavirus updates page of the website sets out how clubs can implement wrestling activity at different phases of the framework.
The announcement on 5th April confirmed that as part of the national move to step 2 of the National Roadmap under 18’s can return to activity at phase 2 of the Contact Combat Sport Framework and Adults at phase 1.
This means that from 12th April, indoor contact wrestling for Under 18’s can FINALLY resume a year on from the initial Covid-19 lockdown. Adults will, unfortunately, have to wait a little while longer for contact however non-contact training can begin again indoors with the reopening of indoor facilities.
To restart training and re-engage with your friends, please contact your wrestling club to find out more details on session times, Covid-19 procedures, and general information.
It is important to remember however, it has been a while since many of you have engaged in high-intensity training. Therefore, start slowly and work to your current capability as you progress over the coming months.
Engaging in Covid safe practices is still paramount and we would like to ask everyone to ensure you follow government health and safety advice at all times.
Please ensure that your club is affiliated to British Wrestling and all participants have a current membership.
