British Wrestling is pleased to announce the team selected to represent Great Britain at the 2020 Individual World Cup in Serbia.
The Individual World Cup was developed by United World Wrestling after not reaching the criteria defined by the United World Wrestling Bureau in June to host a World Championships in 2020 due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
The team will travel to Belgrade, Serbia to compete at the 2020 Individual World Cup from 12th to 18th December, you can follow the action live on the United World Wrestling website.
GBR Support Coach – Steve McKeown
GBR Athletes – Nicolae Cojocaru (U70kgs)
This new initiative will replace the Senior World Championships for 2020 as the sport continues to seek creative and safe solutions to the challenges presented by the global pandemic.
A UWW representative wrote,
“We will abide by strict sanitary measures and protocols which have been developed by our medical commission in collaboration with the IOC and WHO. This includes living in a bubble during the competition for all participants starting from athletes, up to every collaborator, volunteer and person involved in the championship organization. Implementation will be complex and costly, however, we are confident that implementing all necessary measures and procedures will provide a safe environment. We have to reorganize ourselves and live and practice our sport in a new reality. In 2021 we will have the qualification events for the Olympic Games, there is no alternative, and they must be delivered”.
Congratulations to those selected and good luck to the GBR team as they make their final preparations for the event.
