British Wrestling would like to communicate recent updates to the regulations governing the organisation of Interclub competitions. These changes are designed to provide greater flexibility for clubs while maintaining clear competition categorisation, accountability, and effective disciplinary oversight.
Interclub Eligibility and Participation Limits
Interclub competitions are no longer restricted to a maximum of three clubs. Organisers may now invite multiple clubs to participate, provided the event remains within the Interclub framework.
Interclubs are subject to a strict maximum of 50 athlete registrations. This total includes all registered competitors across all participating clubs.
Events Exceeding 50 Registrations
If an organiser expects that a competition will exceed 50 registrations, the event must not be delivered as an Interclub.
In such cases, the competition must be organised under the appropriate alternative category, such as an Invitational (or another suitable sanctioned format). This ensures that events of a larger scale operate within the correct regulatory and safeguarding structure.
Clubs are strongly encouraged to assess expected participation numbers during the planning stage and select the correct competition category before submitting their application.
Appointment of a Lead Official
All Interclub competitions must clearly name a Lead Official within the competition regulations.
The Lead Official is responsible for:
• Overall on‑the‑day competition oversight
• Acting as the primary point of contact for British Wrestling
• Ensuring that competition and disciplinary procedures are followed
Failure to identify a Lead Official in the competition regulations may result in approval delays or non‑compliance issues.
Mandatory Disciplinary Reporting
All clubs hosting an Interclub competition are required to submit a disciplinary report, regardless of whether any incidents occurred.
Key requirements:
• A disciplinary form must be submitted by Monday evening following the competition
• This applies even when the competition ran without any issues
• The British Wrestling Disciplinary Officer must be informed in all cases
This process ensures transparency, confirms that conduct and safeguarding have been actively reviewed, and supports consistent record‑keeping across all sanctioned competitions.
Summary of Key Requirements
• ✅ Interclubs may include more than three clubs
• ✅ Interclubs are limited to 50 total registrations
• ❌ Events expecting more than 50 athletes must be organised as an Invitational or other appropriate category
• ✅ A Lead Official must be named in the competition regulations
• ✅ A disciplinary submission is mandatory for all Interclubs
