Weight Lifting Course at Academy

13/02/2017

A group of UKCC Wresting Level 2 Coaches added to their skills with a Continued Professional Development (CPD) certificate “1st4Sport Level 2 Award in Weight Training in Wrestling.”

Zoe Metcalfe, Coach Education and Course Manager for British Weight Lifting and the British Weight Lifting Performance Team, had worked with 1st4Sport and British Wrestling to develop a bespoke externally benchmarked CPD course for established Wrestling Coaches. The resulting two-day course was delivered as a pilot over last weekend, 11/12 February, at The Academy.

The coaching scene has continued to develop throughout all sports and it is essential that the British Wrestling affords coaches the chance for personal growth and development.

In addition to the Weight Lifting Course, a CPD “Green Award” module has been developed as a workshop, also run over a weekend. This module primarily runs through the Green Award techniques and tactics.

The two modules are compulsory for all UKCC L2 coaches who attained their qualification before 1 January 2016 so they will be given priority places when booking courses. For those coaches who attained their UKCCL2 in the past 12 months, the modules will not be compulsory until 2018 but, of course, all UKCC L2 coaches are more than welcome to take either module before then.

Last weekend’s coaches enjoyed the Weight Lifting event which was delivered professionally by Trevor Hoskins and Andrew Highton.
