British Wrestling is thrilled to welcome Dr. Mark Connor to the Board as the new Home Nations Director for Northern Ireland. Mark’s appointment comes after an open recruitment process carried out in partnership with Wrestling NI.
Dr. Connor brings a wealth of experience to the role, both from the world of academia and the wrestling mat. An Assistant Professor at the University College Dublin School of Business and member of the UCD Natural Computing Research & Applications Group, Mark has an impressive background in data science and research. He has held key positions at EY and STATSports, working with a variety of organisations and elite sports teams.
But Mark’s expertise isn’t confined to the lab or the boardroom. A competitive wrestler since 2013, he actively participates in the sport through his home club and the wider Northern Ireland wrestling community. He even represented Northern Ireland at the 2024 Home Nations Showdown!
“We are delighted to welcome Mark to the British Wrestling Board,” said Chief Executive Craig Anthony. “His understanding of performance sport, coupled with his passion for wrestling, makes him a fantastic addition to our team. We are confident that his insights will be invaluable as we continue to develop and grow the sport across the UK.”
Dr. Connor is equally enthusiastic about his new role: “I am excited to join the British Wrestling Board and contribute to the growth of wrestling in Northern Ireland. This is a fantastic opportunity to work with a dedicated team to further strengthen our wrestling community and support athletes at all levels.”
With his unique blend of academic knowledge, professional experience, and passion for wrestling, Dr. Mark Connor is set to make a significant contribution to the future of wrestling in Northern Ireland and across the UK. Welcome to the team, Mark!
