Last week, British Wrestling sent their first ever grappling team to the UWW 2024 Grappling World Championships in Astana, Kazakhstan. The selected team consisted of six athletes: Rosie Clarke, Injana Goodman, Libby Genge, Sam Gibbs, Craig McIntosh and Max Bickerton who also acted as the team coach.
On Wednesday, Libby Genge competed in the U20 64kg grappling division, winning gold via submission in all five matches. Craig McIntosh competed in the Veterans 77kg grappling division, winning silver and finishing three of his matches via submission.

On Thursday, Libby Genge competed again but this time in the U20 64kg gi grappling category, winning gold and finishing three of her four matches via submission.

On Friday, Sam Gibbs, Rosie Clarke, Injana Goodman and Max Bickerton competed in the senior grappling division. Max Bickerton won his first match in the 92kg division but unfortunately lost his second via points. Rosie Clarke lost her first match in the 58kg category via points and Sam Gibbs lost his match in the 71kg division via submission. Injana Goodman secured gold, winning all four of her matches in the 64kg division via submission!

British Wrestling would like to thank all six athletes for representing GBR at the 2024 UWW Grappling World Championships, especially Max Bickerton for taking on the role of coach during the trip. We would also like to thank BJJ24/7 for organising our selection tournament and Scramble Brand for sponsoring the team and being the official kit provider.
We’re now looking at how we can continue to support the Grappling discipline moving forwards. If you are interested in being involved in organisation or coordination of activities please email admin@britishwrestling.org.
