British Wrestling is pleased to release the selection policies for the 2025 European and World Championships for Freestyle and Women’s Wrestling. These comprehensive policies cover all age groups, from U15 through to Senior level, ensuring a clear pathway for aspiring wrestlers.
The selection policies have been revised with clarity and transparency in mind, making it easier for athletes, coaches, and parents to understand the pathway to representing Great Britain at major championships. Each age group policy clearly indicates the date of selection providing clarity for athletes, coaches and parents to achieve the criteria that athletes must meet to be considered for selection to represent Great Britain.
Despite the streamlined format, British Wrestling remains committed to upholding the highest selection standards. The criteria recognise the significant jump in level required to move from domestic to international, and then to major championship wrestling. They are designed to ensure that the most prepared and competitive athletes are selected to represent Great Britain. Consistent criteria across age groups include:
- International Competition: Participating in at least two GBR pathway-approved international competitions.
- Domestic Performance: Achieving a first-place finish at the relevant 2025 English Championships.
- National Training: Selected to and consistent participant in GBR Pathway Squad.

2025 European Championships Dates and Locations:
- U15 European Championships: 25-28th June in Caorle, Italy
- U17 European Championships: 9-15th June in Skopje, North Macedonia
- U20 European Championships: 30-6th June in Caorle, Italy
- U23 European Championships: 8-14th March in Tirana, Albania
- Senior European Championships: 7-13th April in Bratislava, Slovakia
2025 World Championships Dates and Locations:
- U17 World Championships: 28-3rd August in Athens, Greece
- U20 World Championships: 18-24th August in Sofia, Bulgaria
- U23 World Championships: 20-26th October in Novi Sad, Serbia
- Senior World Championships: 13-21st September in Zagreb, Croatia
